American Noir: Vinyl EP
CREEPER are set to release the new EP âAmerican Noirâ on July 30th via Roadrunner Records. The EP represents an epilogue to the narrative told in their critically acclaimed, Top 5 album âSex, Death and The Infinite Voidâ and is released almost a year to the day of the albumâs first anniversary. âAmerican Noirâ is a requiem to the albumâs central character Roe, which explores his partner Annabelleâs grief and desolation following his death.
Frontman Will Gould commented, âThis new EP is comprised of material weâd written over the course of the last album. Lavish and tragic, it tells the story of the days following the death of our protagonist Roe. Beginning with âMidnightâ youâll find Hannah and I experimenting with our voices together like never before.â
âAmerican Noirâ is launched alongside its lead single âMidnightâ. Indicative of another bold, unexpected yet entirely natural evolution in the CREEPER sound, itâs a fitting introduction to the EP as a whole. The interplay between Gould and Hannah Greenwood is more fully realised than ever before. Blending his velvet croon with her most prominent vocals to date, their duet really brings the storyâs characters to life. The song is also brave enough to continue to up the stakes, rising from the introductionâs cinematic piano and culminating with the fiery intensity that the band have become renowned for.
Greenwoodâs vocals also take centre-stage on the mournful gothic romance of âGhosts Over Calvaryâ and the funeral march elegy of the closing ballad âDamned and Doomedâ. Elsewhere, âAmerica At Nightâ reprises Gouldâs lyrical gift for crafting poetic pop culture references and amplifies the drama with stirring strings and a searing solo, traits which resonate even more theatrically within âOne Of Usâ
The EP continues CREEPERâs creative collaboration with Xandy Barry, who also produced â...Infinite Voidâ.
The band will hit the Reading and Leeds Festivals in August, before embarking upon a major UK headline tour in December. It represents their first headline tour since the release of âSex, Death and The Infinite Voidâ, and their first since their apparent âfinalâ show at KOKO back in 2018.
